Emerging Payments Working Committee

The goal of the Emerging Payments Working Committee is to bring together interested stakeholders to collaboratively explore the opportunities and challenges associated with the implementation of emerging, mobile, and consumer-present payments technologies in the U.S. market. The committee identifies implementation gaps, proposes practical solutions, and facilitates the sharing of best practices to support stakeholder adoption.

Focus areas include:

  • Implementation challenges across a variety of consumer-present and mobile-initiated use cases, including in-store, in-app, wearable, voice, agent-driven, and context-aware transactions
  • Deployment and support of payment technologies such as NFC, Bluetooth, QR codes, and secure cloud-based or embedded wallets
  • Adoption and standardization of security layers, including tokenization, encryption, passkeys, and decentralized identity
  • Considerations for AI-driven payment experiences, including agentic commerce and AI copilots
  • UX and trust design for stablecoin-based payments, delegated permissions, and recurring payment flows
  • Lifecycle management of tokens, credentials, and wallet provisioning
  • Implications of these technologies on merchant operations, consumer trust, and financial institution readiness

The committee’s primary emphasis remains on consumer-present and mobile-influenced transactions, with selected inclusion of adjacent areas such as ecommerce, account-to-account, or digital credential use cases as warranted.

Emerging Payments Working Committee co-chairs are:
